Cellar Cabin
Independent bench 100 units measured

Wine storage, judged on temperature — not marketing copy.

We hold every fridge, cabinet and cellar unit at a target temperature for days, log the swing, measure the noise from a metre away and count the bottles that genuinely fit. Then we write it down.

Four questions, one real recommendation

Answer with your collection, your room and what annoys you most. We score every unit on the bench against your answers and hand back the closest match — with the runners-up.

  • Weighs measured stability and noise, not spec-sheet claims
  • Matches real bottle capacity — the count that fits, not the box figure
  • Only ever returns a unit that has been through the bench
  • Nothing is stored or sent anywhere; the answers stay in this tab

Protocol

How a unit earns its score

The same four-stage run for every unit on this site, in a room held at 22°C.

01

72-hour hold

Set point 12°C, logger on the middle shelf. We record the swing, not the display reading — drift is what ages a bottle badly.

02

Noise at one metre

Measured overnight with the compressor cycling, in a room under 30 dB. Kitchen units and bedroom-adjacent units are judged differently.

03

Real bottle count

Loaded with Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne shapes. The figure we publish is what fits without removing a shelf.

04

Door, seal, vibration

UV glass checked, seal pulled at temperature, cabinet vibration measured — sediment does not forgive a shaky compressor.

Where your bottles actually want to sit

4°C / 39°F10°C / 50°F14°C / 57°F18°C / 64°F
Sparkling & crisp whitesServe at 6–10°C. A single-zone unit set this low will over-chill anything red stored beside it.
Long-term storage11–14°C, stable. Stability beats the exact number — a unit that drifts 4°C daily ages wine faster than one sitting steady at 14°C.
Reds at serving15–18°C. This is the top of most dual-zone upper bands, and why two zones matter if you drink both colours.
